The rise of forests

Carboniferous
359 million - 299 million years ago

Landmasses slowly crash together to form a supercontinent called Pangea. Vast swathes of the land are covered with swampy forest. Insects take flight for the first time and amniotes appear. Tetrapods no longer need watery environments to raise their young; they make the move inland.
