The age of opportunity

The Great Dying left numerous environment niches empty and ripe for exploitation. Life was swift to take advantage. Modern coral took the place of the now extinct, and possibly relatively unrelated, tabulate and rugose coral.  Archasauromorphs  (the ancestors of crocodiles, birds and dinosaurs) filled vacancies left by the once prolific therapsids (ancestors of mammals), and grew to dominance.
