Hematite (bottroydial)

Bottroydial Hematite, Morocco

Bottroydial means bunch of grapes. These are some pretty strange grapes!

Hemaite is an iron oxide. There are a number of iron oxides which are distinguished by the different oxidation states of iron, as well as their structure. Hematite generally requires water to form and is also indicative of the presence of oxygen. In anerobic enviroments; iron tends to form sulphides. Hematite is not magnetic. "Magnetic hematite" is a manmade material.
