Tiger eye is not found in Europe. It is primarily a product of South Africa (although it also occurs in Australia as well as a few other locations in South America). It was first "discovered" in South Africa in the mid 18th century, but was not identified as a mineral until the early nineteenth century. New minerals and rocks are constantly being discovered and the explanations of how they form change rapidly too.
