basilosaurus tooth

Age: Eocene (37.8 - 41.2 million years ago)
Location: Aridal formation, Gueran, near Boujdour, Morroco

Basilosaurids were the first true whales. Archeocetes were originally land dwelling (like all mammals), and are from the same linage as hippos. They were apex predators. Look at those nasty, bitey teeth.
