Twinned staurolite crystals

An important neosilicate mineral, which is predominantly found in rocks which have undergone regional metamorphism. Staurolite is an index mineral and can be used to gauge the temperature and pressure conditions during the formation of the host rock. It is not a completely reliable indicator, as the mineral itself is quite persistent, and it is important to look at the presence and absence of other minerals which occur within staurolite's stability zone.

These crystals display twinning; which occurs when two (or sometimes more) crystals share the same crystallographic lattice, but grow at a different direction. the possible directions of the twinned crystal depends on the symmetry of the crystal itself.

Average weight, 35g. All prices are per item, Them photograph is representative of the items offered for sale, but you may not receive the one in the photograph.
