Ellipsocephalus hoffi

Ellipsocephalus hoffi.
Age: Cambrian (about 500 million years ago)
Location: Jince, Czech Republic

Trilobites are some of the first complex animals on Earth and one of the earliest arthropods. These trilobites date from the mid-Cambrian: close to the beginning of the trilobite story.

Ellipsocephalus had no eyes and were blind. They were most likely to have lived in environments that were poor in light and thus had no need to develop eyes, as they were simply unnecessary in those conditions.
