Tiger Eye

A microquartz replacement of thin fibres of amphibole. The optical properties of the quartz when replacing thin fibres produces an optical effect called chatoyancy, which causes the layers in the stone to shimmer and flicker when moved underneath the light.

Despite seeming a little common place, Tiger eye is a relatively new gemstone and was first described in the early 1800s.
